Start with one job
Think about the main reason someone would open your app. They may want to book, buy something, check a delivery or finish a task at work. Write down that action in a single sentence. It will guide the first version of your app.
Know who will use it
An app for customers is different from one used by staff. Note whether people need to log in, whether they have reliable internet access and whether they will use the app on iPhone, Android or both.
Write down the essential screens
Start with the screens needed to complete the main task. For a booking app, that could be a home screen, service list, date picker, confirmation and account page. Leave optional extras for a later release.
Check the systems it needs
If your app needs stock, payments, appointments or customer records, identify where that information lives today. Connecting to Odoo, Shopify or another system may save duplicate work, but the existing tools must support secure access.
Plan for privacy and access
Decide what personal information you really need to collect and who should see it. Agree on account management, backups, access controls and what happens when a staff member leaves. Apps handling sensitive information need particular care.
Budget for testing and release
The work does not end when the screens are finished. Allow time for device testing, fixes, store listings, screenshots, accessibility checks and app store reviews. Store decisions and review times are outside a developer’s control.
Decide who maintains the app
A live app needs updates as devices, operating systems and business needs change. Before launch, agree on source-code ownership, developer accounts, support response times and the cost of future work.
